Human Resources seeks candidates for a Programmer Analyst position in Strategic Analysis and Reporting (SAR). This position reports to the Director of Strategic Analysis and Reporting.
The employee will be required to use a variety of software such as Excel, Access and Argos.
Design, implement, and test database objects such as customized views, functions, and external tables from design specifications to completion using best practices in programming and data modeling, e.g., efficient code, sound architecture, for use in internal and external reporting and policy making.
Analyze, develop, and design database models for the data warehouse to store longitudinal data.
Work with staff from Information Technology Services (ITS) in the analysis, design, development, testing, and implementation of database systems, e.g., data warehouse, Banner, Oracle Express, to support reporting and strategic analytics.
Determine specifications and create processes to extract, transform and load (ETL) data into the data warehouse from multiple databases and other data sources to include Excel spreadsheets. Work with data analysts to verify data accuracy and availability for use in planning and external and internal reporting activities.
Create and maintain technical and architectural documentation of procedures and structures to provide on-going support for institutional reporting.
Create advanced SQL queries for extracting data from the database systems for use in reporting and analysis.
Reporting and Analysis
Develop data blocks, reports, OLAPs, and interactive charts for use in internal and external reporting and policy-making using Argos reporting software.
Assuming a lead role as appropriate, work with other staff to review coding standards, determine if new standards are needed, develop and monitor new standards as necessary to affect standardized code development and ensure consistency in report development across functional units such as SAR and ITS.
Work with ITS staff and the functional units to ensure integrity and security of institutional data.
Serve and/or lead project teams as assigned.
Perform other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED: Bachelor's degree in Computer Information Sciences or related field, or combination of education and experience equivalent to a degree. Two years of experience that includes SQL programming and database management support. Experience using Excel spreadsheets to organize, format, filter, chart and report data. Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly verbally and in writing; to manage multiple projects concurrently; to work independently and collaboratively with multiple constituencies; to exercise discretion and maintain confidentiality. Well-developed interpersonal and organizational skills.
PREFERRED: Experience in Oracle PL/SQL programming; experience working in Higher Education; knowledge of Ellucian Banner Enterprise Resource Processing (ERP); experience working with reporting software such as Crystal Reports, Cognos or Argos.
