Vacancy - Assistant Professor – Mass Media, Advertising and Public Relations

Washburn University's Department of Mass Media invites applications for the position of Assistant Professor in Mass Media, emphasis in Advertising and/or Public Relations beginning August 2018.  This position is a 9-month, tenure-track appointment as Assistant Professor. A terminal degree is necessary for tenure-track appointment.

Required Qualifications: 

  • Terminal degree in a media, design, marketing or a related field (Ph.D., MFA). ABD applicants will be considered.
  • Evidence of excellence in teaching at the university level.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with teaching digital media, multimedia, new technology, and/or social media.
  • Industry experience in the field of digital marketing, advertising, and/or public relations highly preferred.


  • 12-hour per semester teaching load which may include Introduction to Mass Media and other undergraduate courses consistent with the candidate’s training and interests. Ability to teach digital marketing is a plus.
  • Play a role in developing and refining the advertising curriculum.
  • Engage in service activities in the department, university, and profession.
  • Develop community partnerships, internships and other experiential learning initiatives.
  • Engage in scholarly and/or creative work.
