Washburn
University Herbarium
(WASH)
Washburn University,
founded in 1865, has a large collection of native Kansan specimens, the
oldest of which so far dates back to 1861. This collection
represents
a unique aspect of Kansan ecology and culture in its assemblage of the
endemic species of both the short-grass and tall-grass prairies, as
well
as of the native hardwood stands that predominated development.
Currently,
the specimens are being re-organized, repaired, and catalogued.
