About Washburn University
Washburn University is a liberal-arts college of approximately 7,300 students, situated in the heart of Topeka, the State Capital. In the Music Department, we offer degrees in Music Education, Music Performance, Bachelor of Arts in Music, and several specialized minors, including Jazz Studies.
The Washburn University Department of Music offers several scholarships to majors, minors, and non-majors. These scholarships are based on performance ability and are available in addition to academic scholarships. These scholarships are renewable all four years of study.

Thank you for your interest in Washburn University. At WU there are many opportunities afforded to the brass student. As a music major at Washburn University you will have a student-to-teacher ratio that will have a beneficial impact in your undergraduate studies. There are many additional scholarship opportunites for a WU music major, such as the marching band, Payless Jazz Combo, and one of the highest paying pep bands in the country. Also, the academic and music scholarships at WU are fully renewable all four years of study.

Topeka, Kansas is the state capital of Kansas and holds a historical place in American history. It is situated near Kansas City and the Kansas City (MCI) airport. Kansas City has a rich history in jazz and the city is still a hub of jazz activity. Kansas City also holds its own orchestra, the Kansas City Symphony Orchestra as well as being home to the Fountain City Brass Band. Topeka also holds its own orchestra, the Topeka Symphony and music festival, the Sunflower Music Festival, held every summer on the beautiful campus of Washburn University.
