RAQUEL H. RODRIQUEZ

Raquel Rodriquez is lecturer of trumpet and coordinator of brass studies at Washburn University in Topeka, Kansas. Raquel has served on the faculties of Southeastern Oklahoma State University, Brookhaven College, Tarrant County College, and the University of North Texas.

Ms. Rodriquez is a member of the solo cornet section of the award-winning Fountain City Brass Band based in Kansas City, MO. Ms. Rodriquez is emerging as a premiere cornet player in North America recently winning the 2007 NABBA high brass technical solo competition, Best Cornet and Best Solo Performance Awards at the 2007 US Open Brass Band Championships, and finalist (runner-up) in the 2008 National Trumpet Competition in the 19th Century Cornet Historical Division.

Ms. Rodriquez also performs with the Washburn Faculty Brass Trio. This ensemble gives concerts and masterclasses throughout the Greater Kansas City area. This group recently performed at the KMEA (Kansas) Convention in 2008. Recently, Ms. Rodriquez performed as a soloist with the Topeka Symphony Orchestra and was the featured trumpet soloist with the Washburn University Wind Ensemble at the 2008 SW CBDNA Conference and 2007 China Tour.

Ms. Rodriquez has extensive performance experience in brass ensembles. In her youth, Raquel was a member of the 1992 Star of Indiana Drum and Bugle Corps. This performing group participated in the DCI World Championship and won the high brass title that year. Raquel also had individual success winning the DCM solo soprano(trumpet) competition. This organization soon became Brass Theater and had successful touring summers with the renowned Canadian Brass. Raquel was a performing member of Brass Theater in 1995-96 and 1998. During this time she performed in the Hollywood Bowl, Tanglewood, Wolf Trap, Interlochen, Blossom, Ravinia, and the Mostly Mozart Festival at Lincoln Center. She also recorded a CD with the Canadian Brass (Brass Theater II) as well as a PBS video that was nationally aired in 1996. This organization again went through a rebirth and soon became a show called Blast!. Raquel was a member of the original London Cast. 

As an orchestral musician Raquel has performed with many regional orchestras in Texas as well as the Sunflower Music Festival Orchestra in Topeka, KS.  Raquel has also been featured as a trumpet/cornet artist and clinician with various orchestras, universities, high school bands, brass bands, and music conferences throughout the United States, England, and China. Ms. Rodriquez is a Courtois Artist/Clinician.

Ms. Rodriquez received her BM and MA degrees from West Texas A&M University and is currently a DMA (ABD) candidate in trumpet performance at the University of North Texas where she is a student of Keith Johnson and Eugene Corporon.
