The Washburn University School of Business provides students and faculty with access to the following databases. More detailed information on each database is available by following the links above.

Thomson/Reuters Baseline. The database includes stock prices, accounting statements and financial ratios for approximately 15,000 publicly-traded U.S. companies, and dozens of key economic indicators (some going back 20 years). The database is updated daily, and is the same one used by financial analysts and portfolio managers around the world. Database features include the ability to:
  • Identify New Investment Opportunities: Uncover new investment ideas by screening for securities that match your investment style.
  • Evaluate Your Stocks: Measure the health of your stocks by analyzing fundamentals and filtering company financials with unique tools such as Earnings Purity and Graham and Dodd.
  • Create a Detailed Fundamental Profile of Any Portfolio: Conduct an in-depth fundamental review of your portfolio against more than 400 data benchmarks. Identify areas of over- or under-exposure in the portfolio graphically.
  • Uncover Holdings with Major Intraday Price Swings: Easily track which stocks contribute to your overall return throughout the trading day.

Standard & Poor’s Research Insight. Standard & Poor's data are used by institutional money managers and analysts around the world. With fundamental and market data on thousands of U.S. securities, Compustat provides vital company, index and industry information that supports financial models and proprietary company and industry analysis. The database offers:

  • Twenty years of U.S. and Canadian public company financial statement data and monthly closing stock prices.
  • Quarterly and annual income statements, balance sheets, cash flow statements.
  • Research Insight has a Windows desktop application as well as a direct link via Excel (the Excel link option offers customized reporting applications).
  • Use screening to create a list of companies by defined criteria as well as pulling up data in pre-formatted or custom reports covering multiple companies at a point in time or data items for a single company over time.

Center for Research in Securities Prices (CRSP). The standard for academic research in finance, accounting and economics, the CRSP database includes stock prices, trading volume, returns and shares outstanding for securities with primary listings on the NYSE, NASDAQ, AMEX and ARCA exchanges.

Washburn University’s Mabee Library provides online access to thousands of electronic journals, including Harvard Business Review, McKinsey Quarterly, and MIT Sloan Management Review, via online databases such as EBSCO’s Business Source Premier and Elsevier’s Science Direct. (If you are accessing the library using an off-campus computer, you will need to log in with your name and WIN number -- enter your name as it appears on your WIN card.)
