The Thomson/Reuters Baseline Direct database is a key resource for students and faculty in the Washburn University School of Business. The database includes stock prices, accounting statements and financial ratios for approximately 15,000 publicly-traded U.S. companies, and dozens of key economic indicators (some going back 20 years). The database is updated daily, and is the same one used by financial analysts and portfolio managers around the world. Database features include the ability to:
  • Identify New Investment Opportunities: Uncover new investment ideas by screening for securities that match your investment style.
  • Evaluate Your Stocks: Measure the health of your stocks by analyzing fundamentals and filtering company financials with unique tools such as Earnings Purity and Graham and Dodd.
  • Create a Detailed Fundamental Profile of Any Portfolio: Conduct an in-depth fundamental review of your portfolio against more than 400 data benchmarks. Identify areas of over- or under-exposure in the portfolio graphically.
  • Uncover Holdings with Major Intraday Price Swings: Easily track which stocks contribute to your overall return throughout the trading day.
You may Download a “Getting Started” guide as a PDF file (2.5 MB). The Guide is designed to help users get started with the database and perform some common tasks that are likely to be emphasized in School of Business coursework. It is set up as a tutorial for you to complete by following each chapter in the left-hand navigation bar. The Guide cannot not teach you everything about the database, however. Students are encouraged to explore the database and experiment with its many features and tools. A good hint to remember is that Baseline Direct includes interactive help on every screen. Use your mouse to select any data item on any screen and click on “Help” to see a definition of the item. Please note that the Baseline Direct database can only be accessed from computer terminals in the Mayo Schmidt Finance Lab – no remote access for this product is available. Use the subnavigation buttons 1-18 to reference the item that interests you. If you have additional questions that are not covered in this guide, please direct them to the instructor teaching the course in which you are enrolled.
