Study Abroad Programs:
Washburn University offers dozens of programs in these countries and others--
Can I study abroad if I don't speak a foreign language?
Yes. Washburn sponsors English language programs in England, Denmark, Sweden, China, Japan, Belgium, Austria, Finland, France, Germany, the Netherlands and Spain..
Can I participate in a program sponsored by another school?
Yes. The programs identified here are those sponsored by Washburn University. Other universities sponsor programs in other countries. With approval of the student's program of study, Washburn students can participate in such programs.
How much does it cost?
The cost depends upon the study abroad program you participate in. Washburn keeps costs down. For instance, several of our semester long programs require that you pay Washburn's tuition for a semester while studying overseas. Other programs are less expensive because they last for shorter periods of time, e.g., a month in the summer or during spring break.
Do credits earned overseas transfer to Washburn?
If your program is approved in advance, yes. All courses taken as part of the programs identified here transfer to Washburn. Arrangements can also be made to transfer courses taken in other programs.
Where do I get more information?
Visit the International House for more information, or send an email message to international@washburn.edu.
Lindsay Edwards, International Studies Abroad – Cusco, Peru
I want to encourage everyone to travel to another country at some point in life. You not only learn more than you expect about the culture, you also learn new things about yourself. The unforgettable experiences you go through while studying abroad will forever change your view of yourself and the world you live in.
Kristen Hearrell Language and Culture in Paris - France
At first I questioned my ability to participate in a study abroad. I now consider the study abroad experience as one of the best adventures in my life. In fact, I am planning a return trip next summer to visit my new Parisian friends. I encourage all students to research study abroad options. It is never too late to participate in study abroad.
Ashley McDonald International Business and Entrepreneurship Experience - China
I’ve gained forever friendships, an appreciation of the world, and a business experience that I anxiously await to describe during my future endeavors.
Stefanie Stuever Operation Rescue- Mekelle, Ethiopia
You can watch videos, read books, do research and know statistics but it is not until you are really there, immersed in a culture, that you come to realize how very differently people live. . . I have begun to realize that my trip to Ethiopia is something that I will slowly unpack for the rest of my life.
Nicole Yonke Service Learning – Nicaragua I’m thankful for this opportunity because even though at times it was daunting and uncomfortable, we learned lessons that could never have been taught in a classroom. . . It made me realize all the lessons I still have yet to learn; if for some reason a person thinks they have nothing left to learn, they should travel.
