Application process:
Applications are available online or at the Circulation Desk. When a position is available, applications
will be reviewed and students will be selected to be interviewed.
Applications
are kept for the current semester. If students wish to keep their
application on file they may update their file by attaching a
current
availability form.
Once a student has been hired, they must
obtain an employment contract through the Financial Aid Office
before they can begin work.
Paychecks are issued every two
weeks.
Students may work up to 20 hours per week.
Qualifications:
There is no set list of qualifications for working in the
libraries because job assignments are so varied. However, it is
important
that the student possess good communication and interpersonal skills.
It is also very helpful for students who work at service desks
to
have taken the Library Research Strategies course (IS 170). The
libraries serve a broad range of people--faculty, staff, undergraduates,
graduate students, high school students and others from the community.
It is important that student workers maintain a professional and
helpful attitude as they seek to provide quality service to these
groups.

![]() |
The Curriculum Resources Center (CRC) typically employs four library student assistants. Students who are education majors in any of the three levels of emphasis - early childhood, elementary, or secondary - are preferred. CRC student assistants perform a variety of tasks and are often the first contact person for patrons. They lend assistance in searching for materials, using the online catalog, entering new patron information into the library online system, operating the die cut and laminating machines, checking |

materials in and out, creating displays, processing new materials, shelving returned books, and transporting materials to and from the Mabee Library. The CRC is open until 6 p.m. four nights a week (varies by semester) and Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Students may be scheduled to work at such times, depending upon their class schedule. Students usually work an average of 10-12 hours per week. Students interested in employment at the CRC may apply in person Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. in Carnegie, Room 101. They may also telephone Paula Inman at 785-670-1436 or send e-mail to paula.inman@washburn.edu. |
