Endowments: A Critical Difference Over the years endownment support has played a major role in shaping the character of the Mabee Library and its ability to promote the mission of Washburn University. It is with deep gratitude that we honor the benefactors who have helped advance Washburn through their support of the Mabee Library.
Mabee Library Endowments: Tingley Unrestricted; will be used for staff training and development in 2001 Annual Giving Unrestricted; will be used for development of wireless network Endowments that support the acquisition of library resources: AHS Endowment Established in 1984 by the AHS Foundation to provide Mabee Library with unrestricted funds for the purchase of books and research materials.
Alice D. Shank Endowment Established in 1972 through the generosity of Mrs. Shank, a 1972 alumnus. Funds are to be used to acquire materials in field of sociology.
Charles S. and Doris F. Joss Endowment Established in 1970 and revised in 1975. Both the Joss were alumni and strong supporters of Washburn University. Funds made available from this endowment are used to acquire reference works and other books and reseach materials allied to the pre-medical and nursing programs in such disciplines as biology, chemistry, physiology and zoology.
Class of 1913 Established in 1958 and is to be used to acquire books and research materials in the sciences.
Class of 1919 The Class of 1919 dedicated their 50th anniversity gift to enhancing Library collections. This endowment was established in 1969 and is unrestricted.
Dean Arthur G. Sellen Endowment Established in 1963 by the family, friends, and students of Dean Sellen. Dr. Sellen was Dean of the College and Head of the Department of Biblical Literature and History from 1925 to 1958. This endowment is used to acquire materials in religion and philospophy.
Eleanore L. Porter Endowment Established through a bequest from the estate of Mrs. Porter, a member of the Class of 1906. This endowment is unrestricted and is used to acquire books and research materials for the Mabee Library.
Eva Slater Fulcher Endowment for Science Fiction Literature Established in 1997 through the generosity of Dr. Fulcher and her family, friends, and students. Dr.Fulcher taught in the English Department from 1961 through 1996. This endowment is used to acquire books and research materials in the areas of science fiction, fantasy and science fantasy literature and criticism.
Helen T. Fisher Endowment This endowment was established to honor Miss Fisher, a librarian, who served at Washburn from 1945 until her retirement in 1974. Unrestricted, this is used to acquire materials for the University Library.
IBM Endowment This unrestricted endowment was created in 1984 and is used to acquire books and research materials in any subject area for the Mabee Labrary.
James D. and Melodee A. Wallace Endowment Established in 1996 through the generosity of Melodee Wallace and the family and friends of the Wallaces. James and Melodee were both alumni of the University and this endowmnet is used for the acquisition of books, research materials, and periodicals in the areas of casualty insurance and business.
Kenneth Lee Ham Endowment Created in 1948 to memorialize Mr. Ham who enered Washburn in 1946. Funds from this endowment are used to aquire books and research materials for the Mabee Library in the fields of literature and the sciences.
Lilian Stone Johnson Endowment Established in 1978. This endowment was created to honor this alumna (Class of 1915), is unrestricted and is used by Mabee Library to acquire books and research materials.
Lucille S. Perkins Endowment Establish in 1993 by a bequest from the estate of Mrs. Perkins. This endowment is to be used to acquire books and research materials in the Humanities for the Library.
Mabee Library Endowment Established in 1989 through a gift from the estate of John Gates, Class of 1928. An unrestricted endowment, this is used for the acquisition of books and research materials in all subject areas for the Mabee Library.
Robert H. and Evelyn W. Kingman Memorial Endowment Originally established in 1983 and revised in 1997. This endowment was created by the family, friends, and students of Professor Robert H. and Mrs. Evelyn W. Kingman and honors the commitment of the named couple to the study of biology in general and to the success in this field by the students at Washburn University.
Thomas S. Harding Endowment Established in 1978 by Dr. Thomas S. Harding, Professor and University Librarian from 1966 through 1975. Funds made available from this endowment are used to acquire books, research materials, and periodicals in American history and literature in their broadest aspects.
