Dr. Ann Marie Snook
Dr. Ann Marie Snook has distinguished herself as a versatile performer, being equally at home in opera, oratorio, or concert. As a soloist in the United States, she has appeared with the Lyric Opera of Chicago, Chicago Opera Theatre, Buffalo (New York) Philharmonic, Kansas City Symphony, St. Louis Symphony, Skylight Opera Theatre, Saginaw Symphony, Battle Creek Symphony, the Florentine Opera, Traverse City Symphony, Lansing Symphony, and the St. Joseph Symphony. In Chicago, she was a member of the prestigious Lyric Opera Center for American Artists, where she was heard in operas including The Rake's Progress, Carmen, and Peter Grimes. In Milan, Italy, Dr. Snook was heard in the European premiere of Penderecki's Paradise Lost at the La Scala Opera House. Television work includes a solo recital for P.B.S. Her critically acclaimed performances include Buttercup in H.M.S. Pinafore, Meg Page in The Merry Wives of Windsor, Baba in The Medium, and as mezzo-soprano soloist in Verdi's Requiem. She is a former National Association Teachers of Singing Artist Award Winner, a St. Louis Symphony Award Winner, and was a recipient of the Metropolitan Opera National Council District Award. Recently, she was named Honored Performer of the Year by the National Federation of Clubs of Music. Dr. Snook, along with her husband, Dr. Lee Snook, are founding members of the professional vocal ensemble, Kansa Kantare. She holds degrees in Vocal Performance from Millikin University, Michigan State University, and the Doctor of Musical Arts degree (with Distinguished Honors) from The University of Kansas. Dr. Snook has held teaching positions at Michigan State University, Albion College, and is currently Chair of the Department of Music at Washburn University in Topeka, Kansas.
