How to Apply
Step 1 - Apply for Admission to WU through the Office of Admissions
- Complete a degree seeking admissions application. **New students your admission application is also your application for WU scholarship
- Submit all official transcripts, ACT or Asset scores, and application fee of $20 to the Office of Admissions.
Step 2 - Apply for Federal, State, and Institutional Financial Aid
- Apply for a Personal Identification Number (PIN). (Both students and parents of dependent students) The PIN serves as your identifier to let you access your personal information in various U.S. Department of Education systems.
- Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). WU’s Federal School Code 001949 (Priority deadline of February 15 for campus based funds.)
- Returning students, complete Washburn University’s Scholarship Application by February 15.
Step 3 – Receive Student Aid Report
- Review your Student Aid Report (SAR). You will receive your SAR within 5-7 business days if you applied online; and within 4-6 weeks if you completed a paper application.)
- WU Financial Aid Office will either request additional information or notify you of your awards.
Step 4 - Financial Aid Award Letter
- If you are a first time student at Washburn, you will receive a financial aid award letter that lists the financial aid programs and dollar amounts you are eligible to receive.
- Your award letter will be mailed to the primary address that you have listed with the Registrar's Office. To update your address, log in to MyWashburn Self Service
- If you are a continuing student at Washburn, you will review and/or accept your awards online using MyWashburn Self Service (you will not receive a paper award letter).
- You may accept your awards online using MyWashburn Self Service or by signing and returning your award letter. Please note: Federal Pell grants are automatically accepted. You must accept, reduce or decline any other grants, scholarships, loan(s) or work-study awards.
Step 5 – New and Transfer Students--Complete a Master Promissory Note (MPN)
Step 6 - Disbursement of Aid
- Check Business Office disbursement calendar at www.washburn.edu/business-office for information about when financial aid will be disbursed or credited to your account.
