How to Apply for Scholarships

Washburn University has numerous scholarship opportunities available to undergraduate students who have not completed a first baccalaureate degree.  Each year WU awards approximately $5.8 million dollars in scholarships. Students must have a cumulative GPA of 3.25 or higher to qualify for Academic Scholarships and most Departmental Scholarships. The deadline to apply for Washburn University Scholarships is February 15.

Scholarships for Incoming Freshmen  - students must submit an Application for Admission and Scholarship to the Admissions Office by February 15.  In addition you must submit 6th or 7th semester transcripts with ACT/SAT scores sent directly from your high school.

Scholarships for Transfer Students - students must submit  Application for Admission and Scholarship to the Admissions Office. In addition, you must submit academic transcripts from all schools previously attended.  If you have completed less than 24 semester hours you must also submit a high school transcript and ACT/SAT scores (not less than 5 years old.)

Scholarships for Continuing Washburn Students - must submit a Washburn University Academic Scholarship Application to the Financial Aid Office. Continuing students must reapply each year for academic scholarships; however, scholarships will be awarded based on a RENEWAL process which looks at a student's previous award/enrollment and GPA. Only full time undergraduate students working towards their first baccalaureate degree will be considered for these scholarship awards.

Departmental Scholarships - requires recommendation from the student's department. For example: Athletics, Debate, Music, and Nursing all have departmental funds available. Some departments may have scholarships available to graduate students. Please contact the specific department for additional details.
