Family and Medical Leave

Eligible employees will receive up to 12 work weeks of FMLA leave for health related reasons.  Leave may be with full pay if employee has sufficient accrued leave.  Learn more

Health Insurance

The University pays premiums based on FTE of appointment, salary, and Plan selected

First day of the month following appointment 

Blue Cross/Blue Shield Base and Buy-Up Plans available; coverage includes drug rider.  Blue Cross/Blue Shield dental program includes orthodontics.  Co-insurance amounts and deductibles vary with Plan selected.  University pays portion of dependent coverage premiums based on FTE, contractual annual base salary, and Plan selected.  Premiums may be paid on a pre-tax basis.  Learn more

Life Insurance

First day of the month following appointment 

Amount of insurance is equal to employee's annual contractual salary, rounded to the next highest $1,000 increment, to a maximum of $50,000.  Includes $150,000 accidental death and dismemberment benefits.  No proof of insurability is required if employee is enrolled within 30 days of eligibility.  Learn more

Life Insurance - Voluntary

The Employee

Provider is UNUM.  Employees may purchase voluntary life insurance through payroll deduction, in an amount up to $190,000 with no medical questions.  Coverage may also be purchased for spouse and/or children.  Total limit of up to 5 times employee's annual salary to a maximum benefit of $500,000.  Additional AD&D coverage may also be purchased.  See premiums.   Learn more

Long-term Disability Insurance 

The Employee

Disability benefit is 60% of monthly wage base not to exceed a benefit of $7,500 per month.  Benefits start as of the first day of the month after 6 months of continuous total disability.  Reduced by Social Security or similar benefits from other sources by reason of employment.  Learn more

Leave will be granted to eligible employees who are called into service in the uniformed services.  Leave may be with full pay if sufficient personal leave balance exists.  Learn more 

Parking

Employees are provided free parking on campus.

Personal Leave 

The University 

Accrues upon employment.  Hours earned based upon contractual hours of work required.  Leave earned in a pay period cannot be used until the following pay period. 

Less than 5 years of continuous service: 4.62 hours per pay period; 5 to 10 years of continuous service: 5.54 hours per pay period; 10 to 15 years of continuous service: 6.46 hours per pay period; more than 15 years of continuous service: 7.38 hours per pay period.   Learn more

Retirement Plan - Basic

Plan Document

University contributes an amount equal to 10% of gross contractual base salary.  No mandatory employee contribution for employees with annual contractual salary less than $70,000. 

First entry date after completing one year waiting period, or upon employment if employee holds valid contract from a basic retirement program from another institution of higher education. 

Provider is Teachers Insurance and Annuity Association/College Retirement Equities Fund (TIAA-CREF).  Monthly retirement benefit based on total accumulation and age.  Three year vesting period.   Learn more

The Employee

Providers are ING, Security Benefit, and TIAA-CREF.  Employee may contribute up to maximum allowable under IRS guidelines on a tax-deferred basis.  Immediate vesting.

Shared Leave

The University 

After 6 months of employment in a benefit eligible position 

Eligible employee is provided up to 30 days paid leave of absence in a fiscal year from a shared leave pool.  Pool is created by donations of leave from employees participating in Shared Leave program.  Learn more

Short-term Disability Insurance

Full-time employees are eligible to apply for coverage the first day of the month following appointment. 

Provider is AFLAC.  Personal short-term disability insurance available to provide a source of income if employee becomes disabled due to sickness or off-the-job injury.  Learn more

Sick Leave 

The University

Accrues upon employment.  Hours earned based upon contractual hours of work required.  Leave earned in a pay period cannot be used until the following pay period. 

Full pay up to total number of days accrued for personal illness or immediate family illness or death.  8 hours of sick leave per month, with a maximum accrual of 1040 hours.  Learn more

Unemployment Compensation

Coverage provides for unemployment insurance for employees who become and remain unemployed through no fault of their own. 

Voluntary Phased Retirement

The University

After 10 years of employment in a benefit eligible position

Eligible employees may reduce their workload in preparation for full retirement.  Employee's salary is reduced proportionately, and the employee remains benefit eligible.  Learn more

Workers' Compensation 

The University 

Upon employment 

All employees are provided protection under the Workers' Compensation Act.  Compensation for medical services may be paid for on-the-job accidents.  Compensation for time the employee is unable to work may be paid after a 7 day waiting period.  If the employee is unable to return for 21 consecutive days or more, compensation will be paid for the 7 day waiting period.
