Classified (Hourly) Position Openings



All University personnel who are wage and hour employees are considered "Classified." The application procedures for these positions require that you have a completed Washburn University Application for Employment on file with the Human Resources Department. Vacancies are listed each week in the Sunday edition of the Topeka Capital-Journal as well as numerous placement offices and employment organizations.

Plant Operator/Mechanic

Facilities Services 

High school diploma or GED equivalent.  One year's boiler operations and maintenance experience, or three years' work experience in facilities equipment, operations and maintenance at a heat plant.  Ability to move and/or maneuver equipment and materials weighing in excess of 75 pounds.  Knowledge of and experience with steam boilers and related systems and equipment.  General knowledge of plant/facilities operations and maintenance, safe repair procedures and techniques.  Ability to read and understand equipment manuals and schematic drawings.  Kansas Driver's License with driving record acceptable to the University. 

Employment at Washburn University may be conditioned upon the satisfactory completion of a background check.  Arrest information is not considered in the selection process. 

Completion of technical school, military training or other approved or recognized program(s) in a related field.  Computer knowledge helpful but not required.

Salary is $10.26/hour
