Leading our Youth
The K-12 Youth Development Project Team is the most active team within the student leadership of the Institute. In the 2009-2010 school year, the team worked diligently to develop exciting leadership development programs catered to a variety of ages and interests. In this first year for the team, two partnerships were created. First, a Captain's Camp was held in conjunction with the Washburn University women's soccer team and Coach Tim Collins. The camp featured discussions, simulations, and role-playing activities designed to enhance the leadership skills of captains and captain candidates. The camp was open to elementary, junior high, and high school students with an interest in learning more about leadership and what it takes to be a captain.
In addition, several members of the Institute partnered with Highland Park High School, presenting a leadership workshop to approximately fifty high school students. The Leadership Institute students focused on teaching self-awareness and leadership styles to the group.
