Employee Wellness - Programs and Services
A variety of individualized services, instructional seminars and specialty classes are available to Washburn employees through the Employee Wellness Program. Employees do not have to be members of the Student Recreation and Wellness Center to take advantage of the following opportunities.
Fitness Assessments
Designed for the individual who would like to begin an exercise program and/or evaluate their current fitness level. The test includes an initial assessment of cardiovascular endurance, body composition, muscular strength/endurance and flexibility as well as a health risk assessment.
Exercise Prescriptions
Through an individual consultation, based on the employee’s fitness assessment outcomes, the wellness staff will design an exercise program to meet personal fitness goals regardless of where they exercise (SRWC, another health club, at home, etc.).
Nutritional Analyses
A complete nutrient analysis of the foods individuals eat can be conducted allowing participants to target the problem areas in their diets. An individual consultation will be conducted to discuss that analysis and to provide suggestions for improved nutritional habits.
Smart Start Orientations
Employees choosing to become members of the Student Recreation and Wellness Center can sign-up for an orientation session, individually or as a group, to become familiar with the fitness equipment in the SRWC. Becoming a SRWC member is an option, not a requirement, for participating in the Employee Wellness Program.

Wellness Coaching
Through thoughtful assessment and inquiry, collaborative problem-solving and goal-setting, and safe, open, and honest dialogue, employees become clearer on where they are, where they want to go, and how to get there. Individuals feel accountable to themselves and their coach. They make and honor their commitments to reaching their goals, accomplishing more than they believed possible when they began. Employees are provided instruction and one-on-one mentoring as well as help with setting goals, defining an action plan, and navigating the path until they reach their goals. Learning is facilitated and employees put the learning into action.
Consultations
Individual consultations provide a confidential atmosphere in which to gain information and knowledge in a nonjudgmental manner. Consultation topics are determined by the employee and range anywhere from prenatal advice, to stress management, to diabetes.
Employee Newsletters
All Washburn employees receive a monthly Employee Wellness Newsletter. The newsletter is intended to educate and inspire employees through an attractive mix of wellness topics, easy-to-read stories and enjoyable illustrations.
Incentive Programs
In an effort to keep employees on track as they embrace a healthy lifestyle, the Employee Wellness Program offers opportunities to participate in some popular incentive programs.
