Wellness




The goal of the wellness program is to assist individuals in establishing lifestyle patterns that will enhance their well being throughout their lives.

The wellness program is designed to provide opportunities that emphasize the six dimensions of wellness: emotional, intellectual, physical, social, occupational and spiritual wellness.

With your personal commitment, the services we provide will assist you in achieving your fitness goals and improving the quality of your life.

Services provided are:

Fitness Instruction

  • Non-credit classes are available to members wishing to learn or improve skills in various lifetime fitness activities.

Consultation Opportunities

  • Fitness Assessment
    Designed for the individual who would like to begin an exercise program or evaluate their current program. The test will include an initial assessment of cardiovascular endurance, body composition, muscular strength/endurance and flexibility.
  • Exercise Prescription
    Through an individual consultation, based on your fitness assessment outcomes, our wellness staff will design an exercise program to meet your personal fitness goals.
  • Nutritional Analysis
    With the use of nutrition software, we can conduct a complete nutrient analysis of foods you eat and target the problem areas in your diet. An individual consultation will be conducted to discuss your analysis and to provide suggestions for improved nutritional habits.
  • Smart Start Orientation
    SRWC members can sign-up for an orientation session, individually or as a group, to become familiar with the fitness equipment in the Student Recreation and Wellness Center.
  • Lectures for the Health of It!
    Contact the SRWC if you would like to have someone speak to your group or organization on topics such as: Preventative Health, Substance Use and Abuse, Sexual Health, Nutrition and Fitness, Orientation to Wellness, and Stress Management.

Incentive Programs

  • In an effort to keep you on track as you embrace a healthy lifestyle, the SRWC offers opportunities to participate in some popular incentive programs:
    • Active Ichabod
      Active Ichabod is an incentive program designed to improve total wellness by rewarding participants for demonstrating good exercise, nutrition and daily activity habits. Active Ichabod recognizes all types of physical activity, not just formal exercise.
    • Fall Into Fitness
      Fall Into Fitness is an incentive program designed to encourage and promote healthy lifestyles via exercise for you and your partner.
    • Resolution Solution
      Have you ever made a New Year's Resolution to only forget it by January 31st? Join a friendly team-oriented incentive program designed for you to stay motivated for the New Year!
    • WU’s Most Fit
      Are you WU’s Most Fit Bod? WU’s Most Fit Competition is a way to find out. Individual's fitness levels will be assessed using five modalities: bike, flexibility, treadmill, abdominal strength and bench press. Participants will be competing in divisions based on age and gender.
    • WU on the Move
      WU on the Move is a SRWC incentative program designed to get people moving more and eating less. Recent research indicates that living healthier is as easy as taking 2000 more steps and eliminating 100 calories from your diet each day.
    • Washburn Combine
      Have you ever dreamed of being in the NFL; Washburn Combine is a way to compare your agility tests, speed, cognitive ability and body composition to the highest level of NFL athletes; Individual's agility levels will be assessed using the measurements used in the NFL: 40-yard dash, bench press, vertical jump, broad jump, 3-cone drill, 20-yard shuttle, body composition and an IQ aptitude assessment. Participants will be competing in divisions based on age and gender.

Wellness Resource Center

The Student Recreation and Wellness Center provides SRWC members the opportunity to check out materials from the Wellness Library. Books may be checked out for a maximum of seven days. If you need an item for a longer period of time, you can re-check it out to extend the due date. Items can be renewed unless there is a hold request on them.
