Greek Honorary Societies


As a tangible symbol of our commitment to academic achievement, the Washburn Greek Community hosts two Honor Societies to reward fraternity and sorority members for achieving excellence: Gamma Sigma Alpha and Order of Omega.  Below is a description of these organizations, membership criteria:

Gamma Sigma Alpha

Gamma Sigma Alpha - National Greek Academic Honor Society honors the top 3% of fraternity and sorority members academically nationally.

Founded in 1989 at the U. of Southern California, it has grown to over 150 chapters nationwide.

The Alpha Tau chapter at Washburn was founded on March 16, 1994.

Members are selected each semester based on the following:

Junior or Senior Status

Achieving a 3.50 cumulative GPA or achieving a 3.50 GPA anytime during the junior or senior year

Life-time membership dues for Gamma Sigma Alpha is $20

Order of Omega

The Order of Omega - National Greek Leadership Honor Society honors the top 3% of fraternity and sorority members for leadership nationally.

Founded in 1959 at the U. of Miami (Florida) it has grown to over 300 chapters nation-wide.

The Xi Chi chapter at Washburn was founded on March 20, 1995.

Members are selected by the current members each semester based on the following criteria:

Junior or Senior status

Achieving a 3.0 cumulative GPA or higher

Significant leadership in both the Greek Community and on the Washburn campus

A one-time initiation fee of $50 is due prior to initiation, which we highly encourage chapters to cover as part of the chapter's commitment to rewarding members for high scholarship.
