Order of Omega
The Order of Omega is a national Greek honorary that honors the top 3 percent of fraternity and sorority members for leadership. Its purpose is to:
Recognizes those fraternity men and sorority women who have attained a high standard of leadership in interfraternity activities and encourages them to continue along this line and to inspire others to strive for similar conspicuous attainment;
Brings together outstanding fraternity men and women to create an organization which will help to mold the sentiment of the institution on questions of local and intercollegiate fraternity affairs;
Brings together members of the faculty, alumni, and student members of the institution's fraternities and sororities on a basis of mutual interest, understanding and helpfulness; and
Helps create an atmosphere where ideas and issues can be discussed openly across Greek lines and to help work out solutions.
Founded in 1959 at the University of Miami (Florida), the Order has grown to over 300 chapters nationwide. The Xi Chi chapter at Washburn University was founded in 1995.
To be eligible for membership in the Order of Omega, candidates must meet the following criteria:
Be a full-time undergraduate in "good standing" within a Washburn sorority/fraternity;
Have completed 60 hours of coursework (courses in progress count as well);
Have a minimum grade point average of 3.0;
Have completed one full academic year at Washburn;
Submit one letter of recommendation
New members are selected each semester; however, the total number of students elected into membership in any one year may not exceed 15.
Each member pays a one-time initiation fee of $50 is sent to the Order of Omega national headquarters for a certificate and pin. Membership certificates and pins will be available at the end of the semester.
