INFORMATION
Each Spring, Student Activities and Greek Life hosts a celebration of excellence on behalf of all recognized student organizations through the SOAR (Student Organization Achievement Recognition) Awards.
This annual awards ceremony is a prestigious event, designed to honor outstanding student organizations and leaders for their efforts, activities and leadership during this past year.
Each year, Student Activities & Greek Life puts out a call for nominations and a selected committee, made up of representatives from throughout the Washburn University community, choose the award recipients based on the areas of criteria listed within each award description.
The awards are (in alphabetical order):
1. Emerging Leader Awards for Freshmen & Transfer Students
Will be presented to the freshman and transfer student who have demonstrated knowledge, enthusiasm, and motivation for student activities and campus resources. Transfer student nominees must have transferred during the summer or fall semester of the 2008-09 academic year.
2. Outstanding Program of the Year
Registered student organizations can nominate programs in three separate categories as follows:
a) Community Service
b) Diversity
c) Education
d) Campus Enhancement
3. Outstanding Student Organization Advisor Award
Will be presented to the faculty/staff advisor who has provided continuous support for his or her respective student organization.
4. President's Outstanding Leader Award
The award is presented to a student who shows academic achievement, current and on-going campus involvement, impact of both personal and campus community volunteer contributions, and leadership positions held now and in the past.
5. Random Acts of Kindness Community Service Award
Will be presented to the student who has made outstanding contributions in community service/philanthropy.
6. Student Organization of the Year
This award is presented to the registered student organization that shows campus involvement, contributions to the Washburn community, leadership training opportunities, membership recruitment and retention, and organizational activity.
7. True Blue Bod Spirit Award
Will be presented to the student who has contributed a great deal of time, energy, and support to both the organization and its members.
