Student Health Center will be administering the H1N1 LIVE NASAL VACCINE ONLY to the following students: Allied Health Students and Washburn Tech LPN Students. You must also meet the following CRITERIA and bring a COMPLETED CONSENT with you. The H1N1 CLINIC HOURS will be:
NOVEMBER 4TH 8:00 A.M - 11:00 A.M and NOVEMBER 5TH 2:00 P.M - 5:00 P.M.
(There is NO CHARGE, please bring your Washburn ID)

What's Going Around?
Here is what we are seeing in the clinic:Week October 26th-30th
-Flu-like illness that is probably H1N1 (though tests so far have
returned negative), featuring cold symptoms that then rapidly add fever,
chills, head and body aches, severe fatigue, soaking sweats, cough and
often some shortness of breath, often some nausea and diarrhea.
- Croupy illness featuring initial scratchy throat that goes down into
voicebox then chest, also can make people miserable with some chilling
and sweating, aching, fevers, and fatigue.
- A bad summer cold with sore throat
- A lot of allergy problems
- Some sinus problems
H1N1 (INFLUENZA)
The best protection HANDWASHING!
- Obtain a flu shot.
- If you do develop flu-like symptoms seek medical attention promptly and STAY HOME until you have had no fever for 24 hours and are feeling well.
- Symptoms:
- Chills
- cough & cold symptoms
- Fever
- Head and body aches
- Soaking sweats
- Nausea & Diarrhea (not always present)

Services provided by the Student Health Center include:
- Allergy injections
- Care for illnesses or injuries
- Diagnostic consultation of physical and emotional problems
- Gynecologic care, including family planning services
- Health education
- IMMUNIZATIONS
- Patient assistance program for prescriptions
- Physical exams (Including Sports, Nursing, Study Abroad & Allied Health)
- Preventive medicine
- Referrals to health care providers when necessary (at the student's expense)
- STD testing
STUDENT HEALTH INSURANCE
Information for student health insurance is available in our office, the Dean of Students Office (Morgan Hall, Room 104). The Student Insurance Brochure and Enrollment Form. Students can also enroll online.
Purchase of the health insurance plan is optional and is not required for visits to the Student Health Center; however, given the potentially astronomical cost of medical care it is strongly recommended. If you have more questions, read our frequently asked questions

All Washburn University students are eligible to visit our office free-of-charge for treatment of illnesses or injuries. Washburn ID required for all visits.
No appointment is necessary.
(Please note, treatment is not available to spouses or children of students.)
