About the new ISS Web site
A brief history...
Technology is ever-changing, as is Information Systems and Services. Starting in the year 2001, Administrative Information Systems (AIS) and Information Technology Services (ITS) established a presence on campus for three years, until July 1, 2004 when both areas combined to form the Technology Team. The change in departments was prompted by the vacancy in the director position for ITS. During this interim time period, which lasted for about two years, the Technology Team was re-named Information Systems and Services in July 2006. After a prolonged hiring process, Dr. Michael Gunter was selected to be the director of Information Systems and Services. Because the department is now under official leadership, it was decided to re-brand and modify online Web sites for ISS for a more consistent look and more cohesiveness reflecting the new department.
About the redesign...
The initial ISS Web site redesign is a starting point for future development. Due to the diversity in ISS and recent changes in the department, the Web pages that comprised old departmental Web sites are in the process of being revised, moved, and cleaned up.In addition to the old Web pages, new Web pages are being created as needed. Because the department is very large, this will take a significant amount of time.
The Site Layout...
The ISS Web site has been redesigned with those we serve as the cornerstone of its foundation. By utilizing Washburn's Content Management System (CMS) we are able to provide a clean, consistent look and navigation to make finding information easier. In general, information that pertains to all types of visitors to the site is displayed on the upper "levels" of the Web site. General information will not be buried under the students, faculty, or staff sections. The main focus of site navigation was to be audience or role based. First time visitors will notice three audience types on the left hand menu; Students, Faculty, and Staff. Additional information about ISS in general can be found in the "Learn About..." section just below the main menus.
