Crafts National Exhibit at the Mulvane Art Museum

Contemporary crafts by emerging and established artists throughout the country will be showcased at the Crafts National Exhibit May 5 to Aug. 19 at the Mulvane Art Museum on the Washburn University campus.

The entries submitted represented a wide array of activity in ceramics, fiber, glass, wood, metal and mixed media. Juror Gail M. Brown selected 100 works submitted by 87 artists from 1,089 works submitted by 246 artists. Brown is an independent curator whose focus is to enhance visibility and education about contemporary craft in the larger visual arts community.

Local and regional artists included in the exhibit are:

Manhattan: Dylan Beck, Lauren Karle

Mission: Rachelle Gardner

Olathe: Rebecca Barton

Topeka: Sunyoung Cheong, Bob Heitzelman

The exhibit will open with a reception from 5 to 8 p.m. On Friday, May 4.

The Mulvane Art Museum is located at 17th and Jewell Streets on the Washburn University campus. The Museum, ArtLab and gift shop are open 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday; 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday through Friday; and 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
