Ever wondered who donated the 160
acre tract of land on which Washburn University stands today? Learn the answer
to that question and more trivia about Washburn by participating in the Discover
Washburn Treasure Hunt April 16 through June 18 in celebration of Washburn’s
upcoming 150th anniversary.
Begin the Treasure Hunt by picking up a free packet at the Washburn Student
Recreation and Wellness Center, located at the corner of College Avenue and
Durow Drive. Then, find clues to 15 locations throughout Topeka that have
historical significance to Washburn University. Take pictures along the way and
put them in a free Washburn photo album. Turn in the album for a chance to win
prizes.
The Discover Washburn Treasure Hunt is one of a series of events leading up to
Washburn’s sesquicentennial in 2015. In honoring Washburn’s traditions,
segments of the university’s history will be recognized during the school years
leading up to the official sesquicentennial year.
The Discover Washburn Treasure Hunt is sponsored by Washburn Sesquicentennial
Celebration, Washburn’s Student Recreational Wellness Center, Wolfe’s and
WIBW-TV. For more information, contact (785) 670-1641 or visit Washburn.edu/150.
