Topeka – The launch event for the 3rd annual Leadership Challenge Event® (LCE) in 2013 will include an event preview and thank volunteers and sponsors involved in the LCE 2012 from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 10 in Washburn Room A, Memorial Union, Washburn University.
LCE was developed and is coordinated by Washburn University Leadership Institute. At the 2012 LCE event, teams from Kansas, Nebraska, Missouri and Illinois traveled to Topeka to participate in a leadership conference and an all-day leadership simulation.
Students in attendance attended a half-day leadership conference, where they learned valuable and applicable skills that they had to apply during LCE. During the competition portion of LCE, student teams preformed in leadership roles addressing realistic situations and experiences while in a simulated work environment.
There are two divisions in the LCE, high school and college. There are overall winners in both divisions as well as winners in communication and team collaboration. The overall high school winners are awarded scholarships from Washburn University and the college team is awarded savings bonds.
The LCE is the first of its kind and has taken root at Washburn University with the planning of the Washburn University Leadership Institute. With the direction of a student leaders and the generous support of the Topeka community, the LCE is a pillar for Washburn as well as the Washburn University Leadership Institute.
The Washburn University Leadership Institute strives to develop students into ethical, caring and diverse leaders prepared to immediately assume leadership roles in today’s changing society by cultivating the study of leadership and facilitating transformational learning experiences designed to challenge, motivate and inspire future leaders.
