Taiwan: Building Democracy and Capitalism in the 'unofficial' China, topic of Brown Bag International Lecture

“Taiwan: Building Democracy and Capitalism in the ‘unofficial’ China” will be discussed by Bob Beatty, professor, political science, at the Brown Bag International Lecture at noon on Sept. 26 at the International House, Washburn University. The event is open to the public. The international programs office sponsors the series.

Beatty spent a week in Taiwan as a guest of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and will report on how Taiwan thrives amidst its unique international status. Although not recognized by the United States as a country, Taiwan has been able to not only survive as a counter to mainland China, but in recent years has found a way to build its democratic state while also forging new and unprecedented ties to China.
