2012 Homecoming at Washburn - Thursday, Oct. 25 events

Two days until Washburn University Homecoming blast off and Washburn would like to welcome the community, Washburn students, alumni, faculty and staff to Washburn’s universe as we celebrate “Washburn Odyssey: Bods in Space” Oct. 22-27. Photo Opportunities – Thursday, Oct. 25

Create art for the Dream Rocket Project, a large-scale collaboration of more than 8,000 artworks. Design a “Dare to Dream” art panel from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the lower level, Memorial Union, and have your art wrapped – along with art from around the world – on the outside of a 365-foot Saturn V Moon Rocket at the U.S. Space and Rocket Center in Huntsville, Ala. Take your education to new heights. Attend a brown bag discussion, “The Fallacy of Textiles as ‘Women’s Work,’” by Carla Tilghman, adjunct instructor, art at 12:30 p.m. in the Vogel Room, Memorial Union. Info: 785-670-2062.

Check out the stars: An Azteca Art Colorado dance group, a collaboration of artists with roots in the indigenous cultures of North and Central America, particularly Mexico, will perform a dance showcase from 12:30 to 1 p.m. in the Washburn Room, Memorial Union. In space no one can hear you scream, but at the Yell Like Hell Pep Rally Washburn student groups, sororities and fraternities are encouraged to chant, dance and form pyramids to show their Ichabod spirit. Catch all the action at 7 p.m. in Lee Arena, Petro Allied Health Center. The Washburn Ichabod, Marching Blues and Dancing Blues will blow you out of the atmosphere with their cosmic entertainment.
