The Jayhawk Area Council of the Boy Scouts of America will hold the University of Scouting and Merit Badge Challenge at Washburn Tech on Saturday, December 1, 2012 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.  The purpose of the challenge is to provide Boy Scouts, Varsity Scouts, and Ventures with qualified counselors for technology based merit badges.  These can be earned, or partially earned, through the partnership with Washburn Tech.  Scouts will have an opportunity to receive counseling and instruction for merit badges through two 3.5 hour class periods, one Saturday morning and one Saturday afternoon.

“The Boy Scouts of America is committed to connecting scouts to opportunities in STEM fields - science, technology, engineering and math.  The Jayhawk Area Council worked with Washburn Tech to offer this, the first annual University of Scouting & Washburn Tech Merit Badge Challenge at Washburn Tech.  We appreciate the opportunity to partner with Washburn Tech for this event” said Matt Stuchlik, Shawnee Senior District Executive, Boy Scouts of America, Jayhawk Area Council.
