Washburn University’s website, washburn.edu, was recognized with a Gold Award in Integrated Advancement Programs – Complete Institution Websites at the 2012 Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) District VI conference in Chicago, Dec. 9-12.
Washburn embarked on a redesign of its entire website in summer 2011 to better meet the needs of all constituent groups and to establish a web-based presence for the University’s brand while truly showcasing the Washburn experience. The new washburn.edu launched May 21, 2012. Imagery and design for the website were developed by BarkleyREI and jones huyett Partners.
Washburn’s new site features responsive design which is now optimized for use on a computer, tablet or smartphone. The use of Adobe Flash was eliminated from the site to ensure compatibility with all devices. Responsive design allows the staff to edit only one set of pages. It ensures a consistent user experience on any platform and it prepares Washburn to participate as a vibrant online player well into the future.
The site also has a more intuitive navigation, integrated social media, a better search capability and multimedia, including video and a virtual tour. Overall, the site meets both the needs and the modern technological expectations of perspective students and their families, current students, faculty and staff, alumni, community members, business partners and anyone else who discovered Washburn while online.
Air Force received the Silver Award and Rockhurst University received the Bronze Award in the same category.
