Competition CAN be a good thing! Washburn University President Jerry Farley, Barry Feaker, executive director, Topeka Rescue Mission, and Shelbie Konkel, president, Washburn Student Government Association will kick off Can Emporia, the 7th annual competition between Washburn University and Emporia State University student government leaders to see which school can donate the most non-perishable food items to be given to area food banks, at 12 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 9, in main lobby, Memorial Union, Washburn campus.
The Can Emporia food drive started Tuesday, October 1 and will conclude Friday, Nov. 8. The student government president of the losing school will receive a pie in the face at halftime of the Washburn football game at Emporia State University on Saturday, Nov. 16. Cans collected by WSGA will be donated to the Topeka Rescue Mission and Let’s Help.
WSGA will sponsor several events to raise awareness and participation in the food drive. Donors may bring cans to the WSGA office, lower level, Memorial Union. For a list of items to donate, contact Damian Barron, community liaison, WSGA at 785-670-2316.
