Washburn's Mabee Library welcomes community to open house March 4

Washburn’s Mabee Library would like to invite the community to an open house from 3-5 p.m. on Tuesday, March 4.

Washburn President Jerry Farley will make brief remarks about the recent renovations at Mabee Library and the Center for Student Success. There also will be plenty of refreshments. Personalized tours of the library and its student-centered facilities will be provided by Alan Bearman, dean of libraries, and other staff members.

Come ask your questions about Mabee Library, the Center of Student Success, the First Year Experience program or other efforts to ensure every Washburn student can have a successful academic and collegiate experience.

The recent renovations have done several things to enhance the student experience at Washburn. General academic advising is now located on the main floor of Mabee Library, as part of the Center for Student Success. There is more group study space, a new digital classroom and both featured art and Washburn artifacts on display. The enhanced Tutoring and Writing Center, on the top floor, is larger and has seen a significant increase in student use since it opened in October.

In addition to renovations, Mabee Library has expanded it hours to meet student demand. Mabee now is open 1 p.m. Sundays to 6 p.m. Fridays and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturdays. For security reasons, a current Washburn iCard is required to enter the library from 11 p.m. to 7 a.m.

Come see – and experience – the improved Mabee Library for yourself on March 4.
