Harvesters’ staff, Mulvane Art Museum staff, Canstruction committee members and Canstruction team members will be available for interviews.
WHY:  Teams will compete to build colossal sculptures from canned food and other non-perishable items for the inaugural Canstruction event in Topeka.
Structures will be judged and winners will be announced at the CAN OPENER at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, June 6, at the Mulvane Art Museum. Visitors to the exhibit can vote for The People’s Choice Award by casting a ballot for their favorite sculpture while at the museum.
The Canstruction structures will be on display for the public free of charge from Tuesday, June 3 through Saturday, July 26. Museum hours are 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday, 10 a.m. to
5 p.m. Wednesday through Friday and 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday.
When the exhibit closes, the cans will be donated to Harvesters—the Community Food Network. During its 11-year history in Kansas City, Canstruction has provided more than 612,000 meals to hungry people. Harvesters is excited to bring this event to Topeka for the first time.
