Fifteen new faculty join Washburn University

TOPEKA – Fifteen new faculty members have joined Washburn University.

Tambra L. Eifert, lecturer, physics. Eifert previously taught at University of Missouri-Rolla and Southeast Missouri State University, Cape Girardeau. She received undergraduate degrees at Southeast Missouri State, a master’s degree at Baylor University and a doctorate at Missouri University of Science and Technology, Rolla.

Lisa M. Sharpe Elles, assistant professor, chemistry. Elles received an undergraduate degree at Ripon (Wisc.) College and a doctorate at Northwestern University, Evanston, Ill. She served as a postdoctoral teaching fellow at Pomona College, Claremont, Calif.

Eric McHenry, assistant professor, English. He received a bachelor’s degree from Beloit (Wisc.) College and a master’s degree from Boston (Mass.) University, where he served as a lecturer and teaching fellow.

Erica N.M. Jackson, lecturer, biology. Jackson received a bachelor’s and a master’s degree from Emporia State University, where she also served as a lecturer and a graduate assistant.

Jean Lewis, lecturer/clinical coordinator, physical therapy assistant. Formerly an adjunct instructor at Washburn, Lewis was previously employed by Midwest Health Management. She received associate of science and bachelor of science degrees at WU and is completing a master’s of health care administration degree at Des Moines (Iowa) University.

Margie Lynne Miller, assistant professor, health, physical education and exercise science. She comes to WU from a faculty position at Adams State College, Alamosa, Colo. Miler received a bachelor’s degree at Kansas State University and a master’s degree and doctorate at the University of Kansas.

Mark A. Norman, lecturer and director of bands, music. Norman previously served as conductor of the wind ensemble at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts, Greensboro, where he received a bachelor’s degree, a master’s degree and is pursuing a doctorate.

Jane McGarey Robinson, lecturer, School of Nursing. Robinson has held nursing positions at Lawrence Memorial Hospital and the University of Kansas Medical Center. She received bachelor’s degrees at St. Mary College, Leavenworth, and the University of Arizona.

Denise E. Salsbury, lecturer and field placement coordinator, education. Salsbury comes to WU from Ball Statue University, Muncie, Ind., and previously held positions at Kansas State University and Ottawa (Kan.) University. She received a bachelor’s degree at Baker University, Baldwin City, and a doctorate from Kansas State.

Charles Anthony Silvestri, lecturer, history. He received a bachelor’s degree from Loyola Marymount University and a master’s degree and doctorate from University of Southern California, all in Los Angeles. Silvestri was formerly on the faculty at The Buckley School, Sherman Oaks, Calif.

Mark Allen Smith, lecturer, coordinator of astronomy outreach program, physics. Smith served as a graduate research assistant at Kansas State University, where he also received a doctorate. He holds a bachelor’s degree from Washburn University.

Terry Sorensen, lecturer and program director, diagnostic medical sonography. Sorenson received a bachelor’s degree at Washburn University and has held sonographer positions in Topeka and Lawrence.

Mary B. Sundal, assistant professor, anthropology. She has taught at the University of Kansas, where she received a master’s degree and a doctorate. She also holds a bachelor’s degree from Ohio State University, Columbus.

Amy Deen Westbrook, associate professor, School of Law. Formerly a member of the faculty at the University of Buffalo Law School, State University of New York, Westbrook received an undergraduate degree and a juris doctor at Harvard.

David Albert Westbrook, visiting professor, School of Law. Westbrook received an undergraduate degree at Emory University, Atlanta, Ga., and a master’s degree and juris doctor at Harvard Law School. He formerly served on the faculty at the University of Buffalo Law School, State University of New York.
