Communications
Washburn University Police Department has its own Communications
Center. The center is operational 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. The
Communications Center is responsible for:
- Campus surveillance using CCTV cameras
- Monitoring help phones, elevator phones, and courtesy phones
- Maintaining lost and found (will not accept any clothing items)
- Monitoring fire and intrusion alarms
- Liaison between WUPD and other emergency response agencies
- Connected to the Kansas Criminal Justice Information System (KCJIS).
This system provides officers with information from the National Crime
Information Computer (NCIC) and the National Law Enforcement
Telecommunications System (NLETS) information sharing network via a
secure "always on" connection. This includes felony/misdemeanor
warrants, DMV information, Amber Alerts and Criminal History information
as well as a way of communicating with any Federal, State or Local Law
Enforcement agency in North America and Canada as well as Interpol who
is also connected to the system.
