Dr. Margaret E. Stewart
Professor of English
Dr. Margaret E. Stewart, called "Margy" by most of her students, is professor of English, coordinator of Freshman Composition,
and organizer of writing-across-the-curriculum activities. She teaches nature writing, composition, women's literature, American literature, and Viet Nam War literature and film. She earned her A.B. from Radcliffe College and her Ph.D.
from the University of Wisconsin and has published articles on a variety of topics, including teaching techniques, Viet Nam War literature, the Quaker John Woolman, and the birds of Kansas. She has won Washburn's Fleming award for excellence
in teaching, and Washburn's Herrick award for outstanding service. In addition, she has been honored by the Kansas Herpetological Society for her volunteer work in monitoring amphibian populations. She and her husband Ron Young live
