The Allied Health Department offers a Bachelor of Health Science degree with majors in Health Services Administration and Medical Imaging.  These two options are designed to enhance the skills and marketability of health science associate degree graduates, and may also serve as an excellent preparation for those who wish to continue on to a graduate program.

In addition to an associate degree in Allied Health, these majors have special admission requirements.  Interested students should contact the Allied Health Department for specific requirements.

Health Services Administration

There is a need for qualified managers in the health care field.  Healthcare is one of the most dynamic fields in the business world.  Regulatory issues, policy, technology, and financial issues are constantly changing.  The Bachelor of Health Science (BHS) in Health Services Administration is designed to provide associate degree health care graduates with knowledge and skills in the area of management and leadership.  Completion of a baccalaureate degree with advanced coursework in management and related healthcare issues will make graduates more marketable for administrative positions.

Medical Imaging

There is an increasing need for qualified medical imaging technologists.  The completion of a baccalaureate degree with advanced imaging credentials make graduates even more marketable for employment opportunities in the medical imaging field.  The medical imaging option allows students to choose from four concentrations:

Computed Tomography (19 credit hours)  Graduates of this program are able to become board certified in Computer Tomography (CT). They will have the conceptual knowledge of CT Physics, Cross-sectional anatomy, CT protocols, and CT pathology to use in the clinical setting. The CT technologist will be able to perform CT procedures from the basic CT Head to assisting the radiologist with interventional CT. To be eligible for admission, a candidate must be ARRT certified in (R), (T) or (N: ARRT or NMTCB), or be registry eligible. Second year radiography students in an accredited program may request to enroll in selected courses.

Contact Joseph Loeb for information about applying to Computed Tomography, at 785-670-1414.

Diagnostic Medical Sonography (33 credit hours)  Graduates of this program utilize high frequency sound waves (ultrasound) to produce images of organs and systems of the body in a non-invasive and painless way to identify the presence or absence of disease.  There are three areas of concentration which leads to a certificate in either Cardiac, Vascular or General Sonography.  Students may choose to complete more than one certificate option.

Contact Terry for information about applying to Sonography, at 785-670-2293.

Magnetic Resonance Imaging (22 credit hours)  A registered technologist employed in magnetic resonance or MR does not work with radiation energy, but generates images through the interaction of magnetic fields and radio waves with body tissues. A MR technologist provides optimal patient care while working with digital technology. All applicants must be registered in Radiography, Nuclear Medicine Technology, Radiation Therapy or Sonography.

Contact the Allied Health office for information about applying to Magnetic Resonance Imaging, at 785-670-2176.

Radiation Therapy (35 credit hours)  Graduates of this imaging specialty program provide therapeutic radiation treatments to cancer patients.  Radiation Therapists may also be involved in simulation, dosimetry, and treatment planning.  To be eligible for admission, a candidate must be a graduate from an accredited Radiologic Technology Program and possess the professional designation of RT(R).

Contact John Kratina for information about applying to Radiation Therapy, at 785-670-2171.
