Beginning with the Fall 1999 semester, entering students at Washburn University are classified as either “Priority” or “Conditional” based on their academic preparation:
Admission Status ACT Score GPA (4.0 scale)
Priority 24 or above or 3.5 to 4.0
Priority 23-21 and 2.6 or better
Priority 20-18 and 2.9 or better
Priority 17-16 and 3.2 or better
Students not meeting one of the above standards will be granted Conditional admission status. All students identified as Conditional are required to receive academic advising through Academic Advising in the Center for Undergraduate Studies and Programs (CUSP) even if they are declared majors.
FULL TIME STUDENTS
Those students identified as full time Conditional must review and sign the program agreement with the assigned advisor. Additionally, they will be required to participate in certain programs (described below) and demonstrate academic success in order to be removed from Conditional status. Students will make the transition from Conditional to Priority status upon:
1. Completion of 12 semester hours in the first semester with a grade of C or better in each course, or
2. Completion of two full-time semesters with cumulative GPA > 2.0, or
3. Completion of 24 credits passed.
PART TIME STUDENTS
Students taking six hours or less per semester are exempt from this program, but remain on Conditional status until they reach a total of 18 hours completed at Washburn University with a grade of C or better in each course.TRANSFER STUDENTS
The above criteria will also apply to new transfer students with less than 24 hours. Transfer students with 24 or more hours are required to meet existing university standards for good academic standing. All students are encouraged to utilize the Academic Advising services listed below:
Full time Conditional students are required to adhere to the following:
1) restricted course load of no more than 12-14 credit hours per semester (exceptions made upon approval of advisor)
2) receive all academic advising from Advisors in the Center for Undergraduate Studies and Programs (including declared majors)
3) enrollment in The College Experience Course (IS 100, 2.0 credit hours & IS 170 1 credit hour) during your first semester or, if all sections are full, your second semester
4) attendance in all classes
5) participation in special study skills learning experiences (i.e., workshops, videos, on-line materials, etc…) as needs are identified
6) utilization of the Math Lab, Writing Lab, and departmental/EOP tutoring as needs identified
7) meet with your assigned Advisor in the Academic Advising Office, Morgan 122 three or four times throughout the semester
8) periodic reporting of academic status for each class in which student is enrolled
These strategies have been implemented to promote student success by ensuring that each Conditionally admitted student receives the services he or she needs, improve the level of preparedness for college work, and promote behaviors that will help improve the student’s academic success throughout his/her entire college career.
This was approved by the University President, the Vice President for Academic Affairs, and the Senior Staff Spring 1999 and implemented Fall 1999.
