Washburn Ichabod
License Plate

WU License Plate

Apply and Pay for Your License Plate Online

Washburn University is proud to announce that alumni, students and friends may purchase an official Washburn Ichabod license plate issued by the State of Kansas for the rear of their vehicle. Not only is the Ichabod license plate a great way to display your Ichabod pride, it will also provide financial aid to Washburn University students. One hundred percent of the proceeds from the license plates will benefit the Washburn Alumni Scholarship Fund.

How much does it cost? Obtaining or renewing a Washburn license plate usually requires a $50 per plate annual contribution to the University. However, the Alumni Association is giving you the option of either making the payment or not. Payment is not required. Or, if you would like to make the payment anyway, we would gladly accept it. All money collected for license plates is deposited into our Alumni Scholarship Fund endowment and all proceeds are awarded to WU students in the form of scholarships. If you want to help our WU students by paying for your plate(s) thereby donating to the scholarship fund, we’d welcome your contribution. Donations may be considered tax deductible. Consult your tax preparer for confirmation.

You have to purchase the plate from the county and will pay a one-time personalized plate fee of $45.50 to the County Treasurer's Office plus all applicable annual registration fees, county service fees and vehicle personal property tax.

Will I receive two plates? No. You will receive only one plate for the rear of your vehicle. This is an official license plate issued by the state of Kansas and will replace your existing plate.

Who can get an Ichabod plate? Anyone with a car or truck registered in the state of Kansas. The vehicle weight limit is 20,000 pounds.

Do I reorder my Ichabod plate each year? No. Approximately 60 days before your tag expires, the Alumni Association will send you a renewal notice for your plate. Return it to us and we'll mail you a certification form that you will present to your County Treasurer's Office to renew your plate.

May I personalize my Ichabod plate or pick a specific number? No. Although the state of Kansas considers this a personalized plate, it does not allow personalization of educational license plates. Plate numbers are produced consecutively and issued randomly to the various Kansas county treasurer's offices.

Are Ichabod plates available for motorcycles? No.

What about handicapped plates? Educational license plates are not available with the handicap wheelchair logo on them. Handicapped persons may purchase a Washburn plate, but if they want to be authorized to park in handicapped parking spaces, they will need to secure a handicap placard to hang from their rear view mirror.

I still don't understand; please tell me more. Before persons can get a Washburn license plate, they must apply for the plate through the Alumni Association. The Alumni Association will then send you a certification form for you to take to your county treasurer's office and pick up or renew your plate. The first time you pick up your plate, the state will charge you a one-time personalized plate fee of $45.50 and any applicable county fees. Although the state considers this a personalized plate, it cannot be personalized with a particular phrase or series of numbers. The numbers are assigned randomly. You will also pay all applicable annual registration fees, county service fees and vehicle personal property tax ... just as you would with any other plate. Approximately two months before the expiration of your plates, Washburn will send you a reminder about your renewal and send a certification form for you to take to your county treasurer for renewal of your plate.

What if I just renewed my plate; when can I my Washburn plate? You may exchange your certification form for your plate at any time. It doesn't make a difference when you renewed your plate.

I have other questions. Please contact Susie Hoffmann if you have other questions.

Show your Washburn Ichabod pride and sign up for your license plate today!
