README FIRST: Introduction to the Writing Center Resource on WUinfo Welcome to the Writing Center Resource on WUinfo! The Writing Center Resource on WUinfo is almost complete, but it will undergo modifications regularly as we add, delete, and shift files. We intend this section to provide information about the Writing Center, located in 257 Morgan Hall, as well as information for writers. We encourage you to make use of the one-to-one free tutoring the Center offers to students and community members to improve their writing abilities. In addition to this file, we have included the following sections to the WCenter Resource Directory: Mission & Description of the Writing Center Current Tutoring Times (updated each semester) & Tutorial Staff Writing Resources: with subdirectories containing files on Organization & Development (Comparison-Contrast, Narration, Description Process Modes; Outlining; Transition & Coherence; etc.) Mechanics (Commas, Apostrophes, Semicolons, Colons, Quote Marks, etc.) Usage (Noun & Pronoun Reference Agreement, Tense Sequences, Articles, Prepositions, Countable and Uncountable Nouns , etc.) Sentence Structure (Fragments, Comma Splices, Runons, Dangling Modifiers, Parallel Sentence Structure, etc.) Diction and Style (Audience & Language, Connotation, etc.) The Research Paper & Documentation Formats (MLA & APA Formats) Test-Taking Hints (Focus: Writing Essay Exams) Business and Organizational Writing (Resumes, Application Letters, Memos, Bad News Letters, etc.) Handbook for Writing Consultants at Washburn (Guidelines for Writing Tutors) Instructors' Writing Center Referral Memo Form (to let the Center know which areas the instructor would like the student to have help) Writing Center Letter to Students Writing Awards Contest Information (Categories and guidelines for the contest) The Center, at 257 Morgan, offers tutoring during Spring, Summer, and Fall during specific appointment times and drop-in times (no appointment needed).
