1. Thimios called the meeting to order.
2. The Faculty Senate proposal was reviewed.
a. Recommended revisions were primarily directed at representation with no adjunct representation and 5 at large representatives (no more that 2 from any one college/school). The President and VP of the faculty senate will serve as representatives to the Board of Regents.
b. Staggered term limits are proposed.
c. The goal of University Council is to have the proposal ready for presentation by the January 2005 faculty meeting. Faculty will have the opportunity to revise and/or amend the proposal at this time.
d. Discussion was held on how the AAUP can support educate faculty on the structure of a faculty senate. It was recommended that the proposal be sent to faculty via email prior to this date.
e. The University Handbook Article 5 will need to be amended to reflect the changes proposed by the formation of a faculty senate.
3. Discussion was held on the proposed transformational experience. Many questions remain including:
a. What is the cost of the proposal and what funding will be available?
b. How will the proposal influence faculty workload?
c. How will the proposal influence student workload and enrollment?
d. What level of faculty will be hired to support the transformation experience (Adjunct, tenure track, part-time, lecturer)? Hiring faculty with research interests and experiences was recommended.
e. Are faculty to consider this part of their teaching experience or service experience?
f. How is the proposal brought forth by the VPAA different from the original one presented by the WU Curriculum Committee?
4. Faculty use of Petro athletic facilities was discussed.
a. Custodians have been advising faculty that Petro facilities are now longer open to faculty or staff.
b. AAUP members are concerned about who made that decision and the rationale behind the decision. Members were also concerned that the decision was not communicated to faculty by administration.

d. It was the understanding of many long time faculty that use of the athletic facilities in Petro was one of the benefits provided by the university.
e. It was recommended that Bill Roach, president of WU AAUP, send an inquiry email to the VPAA requesting information about the policy, rationale and who made the decision.
5. Other:
a. Elimination of contributions to TIAA-CREF for summer school assignments is being considered by university administration. Questions remain as to why this has not gone through the WU Benefits Committee
