Announces Student Scholarships and new Scholarship Fund
MBAQ, a separate NY gay and lesbian professional group (not affiliated with
Out Professionals), announces their first annual scholarship program. Any gay
or lesbian business school students may apply, whether they are OP members or not.

MBAq 2001 Scholarship Application
MBAq is an organization of gay/lesbian business professionals, based in the
New York City metropolitan area, with members residing in the USA and
internationally. Their mission is to provide opportunities for gays and
lesbians to connect, learn and participate effectively within the business
community. Their members are predominantly MBA graduates, but MBAq
membership is open to all gay and lesbian professionals.
MBAQ will award up to three $1,000 merit-based Scholarships to gay/lesbian
business school students. Candidates may be nominated by a MBAq member or
they may apply on their own. Scholarships are available to first-year or
second-year students. (Students who are awarded a scholarship may not apply
again.)
Additional Scholarships: If MBAq receives additional contributions to the
scholarship fund before July 1, 2001 and has qualified candidates, additional
scholarships will also be awarded.
Requirements: To apply, students (of any age) are asked to submit a typed
(not hand-written) application including:
1. Complete contact information (name, complete mailing address, phones,
email, & date of birth)
2. Schools where candidate has applied, has been accepted or is currently
studying.
3. Unofficial Transcript of Academic Grades (from high school to present.)
4. One or two Letters of Recommendation, from employers, teachers or
mentors.
5. One-page Letter stating financial need.
6. A brief Personal Statement, including a description of goals and personal
interests.
7. A college-level Essay on the following subject: How will you make a
difference as a gay person in business? How will your MBA degree help your
career?
Essays will be judged on honesty, thoughtfulness and creativity.
Scholarships will be awarded based solely upon need and the other criteria
stated above. Applications will be reviewed and awarded by the Scholarship
Approval Committee of the MBAq Board of Directors. Candidates who are
awarded a scholarship must also provide a photo headshot and permission to
announce their name and publish their photo in the MBAq newsletter.
Deadline and Award Date: Applications must be received by MBAq before 12
midnight, Monday, July 2, 2001.
Scholarships will be awarded on or before August 15, 2001. Applications may be
emailed as text INSIDE the body of the email (or as Word attachments) to

MBAq will mail or email you with a reply, confirming receipt of your

Make a Donation to the MBAq Scholarship Fund
MBAq will also accept donations of any amount to the scholarship fund.
Anyone may contribute.
If you would like to help gay/lesbian students achieve their higher
education goals, please consider making a contribution of any amount.

MBAq will send printed receipts for all donations received.
Contributions between:
$100 - $199 include a free one-year MBAq membership.
$200 - $299 include a free two-year MBAq membership.
$300 - $399 include a free three-year MBAq membership.
$400 - $499 include a free four-year MBAq membership.
And any amount over $500 includes two free five-year MBAq memberships.
Please note that MBAq is not registered as a New York State 501(c)3 charity,
so any scholarship fund contributions are not tax-deductible as a charitable
expense.
Contributions are deductible as a legitimate business expense.
