Michael Hancock, Matt Howell, Bryce McPhail, and Dr. Florea on way to meeting |
Meeting was held at 12:30 p.m. in Henderson, room 210. The regular time and place for future meetings will be every other Monday at 7:00 p.m. in Henderson, room 210. The next meeting will be on Monday, March 10, followed by meetings on March 24, April 7, April 21, etc.

Membership dues are waived for now. Liviu suggested asking the School of Business for initial support. Matt will talk with Stacy Woltje, Academic Advisor, SOBu.
Future elections will be considered at the end of each semester. The keyword here is “considered.” SHRC members may elect to have current officers retain their positions, this will depend on circumstances at the end of each semester, e.g., graduation, change in work situation, etc.
Some suggestions for the purpose of SHRC were “tossed about”:
-
Raise awareness and knowledge of human resource management
-
Develop networks to find internships and jobs
-
Develop teamwork and leadership skills
All members were encouraged to send articles, promotional blurbs, pictures, or any other type of written or graphic material to Les Coover (leslie.coover@washburn.edu) so that he can incorporate them into the SHRC website.

President Howell reported that due to many scheduling conflicts the Job shadowing event with the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City has been moved to Fall 2008.
—Treasurer reported progress with recruiting Ms. Ramirez for SHRM advisor
SHRC Treasurer, Matt Freyler, contacted Ms. Diana Ramirez who is the Branch Manager at Express Personnel Services for the Topeka, Kansas area, to determine if she is interested in becoming our Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) advisor. At this point there has been no firm commitment from Ms. Ramirez. Since our club must coordinate our efforts to become a SHRM affiliate with the Topeka Chapter of SHRM (Local 0428), Matt will continue to thrash out this issue with Ms. Ramirez when he contacts her again.
One problem with our advisor recruitment effort thus far has been our inability to adequately explain to potential advisors what their responsibilities would entail. Aimee Childs will contact SHRM to get a definitive outline of what SHRM advisor responsibilities are.
President Howell wants to get a SHRM advisor on board by Fall 2008.
