Information for Staff
ISS knows what it takes to enable staff at Washburn to get their job done. We understand that the success of staff depends on the success of ISS. Whether staff members are gardening, running a library, assisting students, or helping a faculty member, ISS has a hand in almost everything staff does. That's why it is important to us to ensure the success of those who also help others.
Using on campus computers
Most Washburn staff will have a Dell desktop computer to aid in their job. Upon turning the computer on, a login screen appears. This login is necessary to enable central storage of files and preferences for every staff member regardless of the computer they use. No more does the employee have to copy files on to disk or other removable media when the need for file sharing arises. ISS has implemented WUAD (Washburn University Active Directory). This technology stores bookmarks, preferences, desktop icons and shortcuts, as well as mail settings for local mail programs and any other number of customizations. Everything is stored in the active directory so when logging into another computer in WUAD, it appears as if the staff member never left their normal computer. Another important aspect to this is central file storage. Employees have a MyDocuments folder for saving files. Unlike simply saving to the C drive of the local computer, documents saved in MyDocuments are backed up and kept safe. Staff members have access to shared departmental drives. Additional shared drives are set up when sharing files among a group of people is desired.
Information About Accounts
Two types of user names and passwords exist at Washburn. The most common user name and password is the MyWashburn login information. MyWashburn gives staff access to check e-mail, submit time sheets, check personal leave hours and pay history, plus many other things. This login name is typically first name.last name. Another type of account is referred to as the WUAD account. This username is typically part of the last name and first name or the last name with numbers attached to the end. This login information is to access on-campus computers. Questions about accounts can be addressed at the Technology Support Center (Bennett Room 104) or by e-mailing support@washburn.edu
