The College-Level Examination Program (CLEP) gives individuals the opportunity to receive college credit for what they already know by earning qualifying scores on any of 33 examinations. Through CLEP individuals can earn credit for knowledge acquired outside of the traditional college classroom.  For a list of CLEP exams that Washburn awards credit for visit:

A satisfactory score on a CLEP exam can earn you 3 college credits.

At $114, a CLEP exam is a fraction of the tuition for a college course.

How to Register: 

Create a CLEP account and register for an exam through the My Account registration portal, then contact the Center for Prior Learning and Testing to schedule an appointment date for the exam


$89 plus $25 administration fee = $114 total
Note – Eligible military service members or eligible spouses are funded by DANTES and are not required to pay the testing fee, see DANTES Eligibility Chart

Items to Bring: 

  • Current government-issued identification that includes your photo and signature
  • Registration ticket
  • Payment for exam

Note - 2 forms of ID are required for military/veteran students including a military ID.
Individuals may not test without appropriate identification.

Format of the exam: 

Computerized, 1 ½ - 2 hours in length
Note – Some exams may include an essay, which is written by paper/pencil
