Anticipated for Fall 2022, the new concentration in sport and event media is perfect for you if you want to work in collegiate or professional sport team promotions, media relations, or a related role, or if you aspire to work in event planning and promotion for venues, organizations, or communities. This is a rapidly growing and fast-paced field where no day is the same. Combine what you learn in this program’s project-based courses and outside of class experiences with your strong work ethic and you will be set up for success.

4-Year Plan

A Bachelor of Arts in Mass Media with a concentration in sport and event media can be completed in four years. You'll complete an internship and have the opportunity to complete a minor in an area of interest to you.

Learning pathway

It is common to declare a major in Mass Media at enrollment and then determine your specific concentration.

In this applied field, you’ll be able to work directly with clients in project-based courses. As you advance in your skills you can also take on paid roles with Student Media.

Mass media majors who complete specific requirements advance to a for-credit internship experience. Recent sites have included: Dallas Stars National Hockey League team, Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art (Kansas City), and Topeka Performing Arts Center.
