The Washburn University Leadership Institute has committed to creating a structured learning environment that fosters and encourages student leadership development. Incoming, direct from high school or transfer, and current students who have demonstrated leadership initiative, academic excellence and participation in extra-curricular activities during high school or college may be eligible for leadership scholarships.These scholarships are worth approximately $1,250 and awarded to students pursuing the Leadership Studies Minor or Certificate. They are renewable up to four years if all requirements are met.

If you are interested in a leadership scholarship, application materials are made available in September for the following fall.

Incoming Student Scholarships

DEADLINE FEBRUARY 28

Direct from high school and transfer students coming to Washburn University are invited to apply for a Leadership Institute scholarship. These are competitive scholarships suitable for students who exhibit leadership initiative and seek additional leadership development opportunities during their college years. Most scholarships start at $1,250.

Minimum scholarship requirements for direct from high school students include a 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale. Transfer students must have a cumulative 3.0 GPA. Accepting a Leadership scholarship commits a student to participate in Washburn University's Leadership Institute, maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 while making appropriate progress toward a Leadership Studies Minor or Certificate.

Finalists will be notified in the middle of March whether they are a scholarship finalist. Required on-campus interviews will be conducted in early April. Scholarship recipients will be announced by April 20th.
