Proctoring Services at Washburn University

The Center for Prior Learning and Testing provides proctoring services for both Washburn students and students from other universities. Proctoring Services are available with limited capacity. Priority scheduling is given to students needing make-up exams or to Washburn students taking individual, non-Washburn proctored exams. Entire class proctoring services will be available if scheduling allows and will be subject to departmental fees.

There is no charge for an individual Washburn student who needs a Washburn exam proctored. Students needing an exam proctored for another university will be charged the correspondence test fee listed on the Testing Price List To request proctoring services for a non-Washburn course students must have their instructor submit a proctoring request to the Testing Center.

If you are a student seeking a make-up exam, please have your instructor complete the Proctoring Services Request Form before contacting the Center to arrange your test. No proctored exams will be scheduled until the form has been filled out and submitted to the Testing Center.

Faculty requesting proctoring services for their class or group will have two options on the Proctoring Services Request Form.

The first is synchronous testing, where the testing services are being performed at the same time the instructor would be holding class. For example, if you teach class on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 12 – 1:15 p.m., and you wanted to request proctoring services for Tuesday or Thursday from 12 – 1:15 p.m., you would select the synchronous testing services request.

The second option is designed for in-person proctoring for an online course. To accommodate a whole class of distance students who need to take in-person proctored exams, the Testing Center utilizes a 3-block model. For each exam students will be given a choice of 3 different blocks (morning, afternoon, early evening) during the week of the exam. The length of these blocks (1hr, 2hrs, etc.) is determined by the instructor and specified on the Proctoring Services Request Form.

The Center for Prior Learning and Testing is an auxiliary unit of the university. As such, use of the Testing Center for whole class proctoring services for is subject to fees. Departments will be charged per hour for class proctoring services. Please see the Testing Price List for more information.
  • Before proctoring services can be performed, a request for services must be received and processed by the test center. All requests for proctoring are dependent upon staff and room availability.
  • Semester-long proctoring services for whole classes must be requested by the instructor at least 2 weeks before the start of that semester. A separate Proctoring Services Request Form must be submitted for each exam.
  • One-time whole class proctoring requests must be submitted 3 weeks before the anticipated testing date. Any changes to an instructor’s testing schedule need to be communicated to the Testing Center immediately. However, it is not guaranteed we will be able to accommodate a change request as whole class proctoring reservations are subject to availability and priority is given to individual student needs.
  • Upon receipt of your request, the Testing Center will send you a confirmation email with additional information including payment information if applicable. Proctoring services will not be performed until payment has been received. The Testing Center will also follow-up if there is any missing information on the Testing Services Request Form.
  • Any request for special accommodations or special testing administrations for non-Washburn course exams MUST be received and approved by the test center at least one week in advance of the scheduled appointment. Initiation of this process is the responsibility of the examinee requesting the service. Washburn students taking Washburn exams who require testing with accommodations are directed to contact the Office of Diversity and Inclusion at 785.670.1622 to schedule their exam.
  • The test center is responsible for providing proctoring services and administering services within the guidelines provided by the instructor/school or testing agency.
  • Violation of test center policies and procedures will result in dismissal from the test center and possible cancellation of any test being administered. Any fees paid to the test center will be forfeited.
  • While we prefer testers to make appointments in advance, walk-ins are accepted if there is room availability, and your request form has already been received and processed.
