Join Washburn University's Department of Education in a unique volunteering experience in Belize!

The Study Abroad in Belize Program is a 16 day experience volunteering in Belize, Central America. Washburn University students interact with local Belizean adults and children at several orphanages. This study abroad program offers a diverse experience for students to encounter a different and unique culture.  Planned experiences include a Mayan ruins/temples tour, a day of leisure at the Bacab Eco Park, visiting the Belizean Museum and interactions with teachers and other educators at the Belizean International Symposium on Education.  Included is a 45 minute offshore water taxi ride to Caye Caulker; an island where we tutor children in an elementary-middle school during three mornings. Optional activities are snorkeling in the Caribbean Sea; cave tubing; sunbathing at the beach; kayaking through the rain forest; horseback riding; and, visiting a butterfly reserve.
