Why Major in Biology at Washburn?
The biology department offers broad-based degrees in biology that prepare undergraduates for entering professional schools, including medical school and physician assistant programs.
Our graduates also attend graduate schools, where they pursue either master's (M.A. or M.S.) degrees or doctoral (Ph.D.) degrees in various subdisciplines of biology, including genetics, molecular biology, cellular biology, forensic biology, anatomy, physiology, botany, ecology, evolution, animal behavior, zoology, and many others.

Meet alumnus success story Michael Hollins
Michael "Bear" Hollins was a renaissance man during his time at Washburn, starring on the football field, classroom and campus life. Hollins received a bachelor's degree in biology, was a member of several student organizations and was named Homecoming King as a senior. Hollins is now a doctor, working as an optometrist in Kansas City.
Add a minor in biology to any degree
To minor in biology, you must apply to the department and be assigned a biology advisor. The 17-hour minimum must be met with course work appropriate for biology majors.
